The Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT) is a set of program utilities and documents provided free of charge by Microsoft to support the life-cycle management of application compatibility issues in large scale installations of the Windows operating system.
ACT is a tool for organizations with large numbers of installed PCs running Windows. Operating system upgrades of any size have the potential to disrupt the seamless function of a Windows-operated PC. ACT assists decision makers in evaluating which applications are compatible with the proposed upgrade and which ones need further testing. The effect is a significant cost and risk reduction and overall more efficient deployment process of Windows upgrades.
The toolkit contains the following tools:
- Application Compatibility Analyzer
- Application Verifier
- Compatibility Administrator
