What Does Hyperautomation Mean?

Hyperautomation is a strategic approach to scaling automation within an enterprise. The strategy involves identifying what tasks to automate and choosing the most appropriate automation tools for each task.

An important goal of hyperautomation is to optimize ways that robotic process automation (RPA) can be used to improve productivity. Other areas of information technology (IT) associated with hyperautomation include:

  • Artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Business process management (BPM)
  • Event-driven software architecture
  • Integration platform as a service (iPaaS)
  • Low-code/no-code (LCNC) software development
  • Machine learning (ML)

Techopedia Explains Hyperautomation

Hyperautomation is a business-driven approach to automation that essentially seeks to put a process in place for automating future automations. The goal of hyperautomation is to streamline operations as much as possible by automating as many workflows as possible.

The emphasis on process is what makes hyperautomation different from other automation frameworks, including digital process automation, intelligent process automation and cognitive automation.

The research firm Gartner and some Tier 1 vendors in the tech space are promoting hyperautomationas the next wave of automation or “automation 2.0.” Gartner predicts that by the year 2024, 40% of all businesses will have a strategy in place for using automation to fill in infrastructure operations gaps.
